TRACTION

The TRACTION Program (Archived)

The TRACTION Program (Training in Research And Clinical Trials in Integrative ONcology) was a University of Calgary–based mentorship initiative designed to support trainees interested in psychosocial oncology and integrative oncology research (wrapped up in 2022). The program welcomed undergraduate, master’s, doctoral, and postdoctoral trainees, providing structured mentorship, research training, and opportunities to engage in cancer-focused behavioural and patient-engagement focused research.

TRACTION played an important role in building research capacity in psychosocial and integrative oncology, helping to support the development of emerging scholars and clinician-researchers in cancer care.

The program is no longer active. Its success contributed to the development of a national training platform — the Canadian Behavioural Interventions Trials Network (CBITN). While TRACTION was cancer-specific and locally based at the University of Calgary, CBITN expands behavioural clinical trials training across health conditions and institutions nationwide.

We are proud of TRACTION’s legacy and its contribution to advancing integrative oncology research training in Canada.
