Hello

My name is Mannat Bansal, I am currently working on my Masters of Science in Health, Exercise, and Sport Psychology.

Supervisor: Dr. Nicole Culos-Reed

Research Project: Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) in Exercise Oncology: Exploring Experiences with Exercise Among Individuals of South Asian Heritage Living with Cancer

My Story

Mannat has a Bachelor’s of Science in Exercise and Health Physiology from the University of Calgary’s Faculty of Kinesiology. She graduated with First Class Honours and did her thesis on media representations of sexual assault in Canadian ice hockey. As a part of her EDI work, she is a member of the Faculty of Kinesiology EDI Committee and the Health and Wellness Lab EDI Committee. Mannat is also currently a Teaching Assistant for first-year anatomy. Outside of academia, Mannat is a fitness instructor for the Alberta Cancer Exercise Study and for Wellspring Calgary. She is also a Tykes basketball coach for the Chestermere, Langdon, Strathmore (CLS) Minor Basketball Association.

My short-term goal is to continue my current work on EDI in exercise oncology. My Masters study is a qualitative descriptive study and I would like to pursue a PhD where I study the feasibility of implementing culturally appropriate exercise oncology programming for minority individuals living with cancer. Long-term, I hope to be a clinician-scientist and a professor. My research and life experiences have really highlighted the gap in healthcare and education between minority and majority populations and I hope to help others overcome these barriers.
